“Chandrika”, 48x48in (121.9×121.9cm), oil on canvas wrapped panel, 2015
I think the entire time I worked on this piece, I was trying to decide if this figure was stepping IN to the light…or AWAY from it. For me, there is often some duality or conflict that comes into a piece because I am so often balancing a world of opposites. I depict some of the raw emotions that tend to fuel and inspire my work, but then as the work takes on its own life, it becomes a conduit to something all its own.
In the end, I decided that “Chandrika” is coming IN to the light.
The name comes from a girl I met in Paris. Just a beautiful and captivating name that stuck with me.
