“The title for this show comes from the idea that in order to cope with challenging events in our lives, we tend to frame them out in a story…something with an understandable sequence…something that makes ‘sense’.
The fact is though, that difficult, traumatic, and upsetting experiences often just make no sense at all. I can think of about a million examples of this, but suffice it to say, things are easier if we can somehow find a way to understand them.
Unfortunately (and I’m sure I’m far from alone here) there are just so many things I might always struggle with a little bit. How do you make ‘sense’ of things like child abuse, illness, rape, violence, accidents, discrimination, neglect, abandonment, etc. (I could go on)? I just don’t know… But my work gives me a vehicle with which to explore, unravel, and heal. This is a powerful thing. My work is all about owning my power, and holding onto strength, hope, joy, and faith. I consider what I do to be the greatest gift I could give myself, and I am proud to share my stories. All of them. And my hope is always that my work brings something to others that can help them make ‘sense’, too.”
